Setting up your Elon Smart Thermostat is a simple process that can transform your water heating system into an energy-efficient, smart appliance. This guide will walk you through the installation and configuration process, ensuring you can monitor and control your geyser effortlessly from your smartphone.

Step 1: Installation by a Qualified Installer

  • Step 1 is for the installer to install the system according to the instructions in the installation manual. The latest version of the manual can be found here.

Step 2: Connect to the Elon Smart App

  1. Download the App: Install the Elon Smart Water app on your smartphone from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store.

  2. Open the App: Open the app and wait for it to authenticate (this should only take a few seconds).

  3. Scan the QR Code: Tap the (+) button in the app to add the thermostat. Use your phone to scan the QR code on your thermostat or inside your distribution board.

  4. Configure the Thermostat: After adding the device, access the Configure Thermostat

screen by tapping the hammer & spanner button.

Here, you can set up your Wi-Fi, adjust temperature settings, and select your heating profile.

(Note: Your installer should have configured your Wi-Fi and done the initial configuration at the time of installation. If they haven’t done so yet, please refer to this article for more information on how to configure your Elon Smart.

Step 3: Set Up Your Heating Profile

  • Grid Only: Uses only grid power - ideal if you do not have solar panels installed.

  • Solar Only: Exclusively uses solar power, maximising energy savings.

  • Morning Shower: Prioritises solar power except from 3 am to 5 am when it uses grid power to boost temperature.

  • Evening Shower: Prioritises solar power except from 5 pm to 7 pm when it uses grid power to boost temperature.

  • Morning and Evening Shower: Uses solar power all day except during early morning and late afternoon when it uses grid power to boost the temperature.

Step 4: Test, Monitor, and Adjust Settings

  • Check Status: Use the app to monitor water temperature and energy usage in real time. Ensure that the thermostat is correctly set to your desired heating profile.

  • Recommended Settings: For optimal savings and solar power usage, set the solar temperature set point to 65 °C and the grid temperature set point to 50 °C. This helps maximise solar energy use while reducing reliance on grid power.

  • Use "Heat With Grid Now": If the water temperature is too low, especially on cloudy days, use the "Heat With Grid Now" button in the app. This will temporarily heat the water to its set point using grid power and then return to the previous heating profile.

  • Adjust Settings as Needed: If you find that water temperature is not adequate at certain times, adjust the temperature set points or switch profiles.

  • Troubleshoot if Necessary: If you encounter alarms, refer to the alarms section in your user guide, or contact your installer if issues persist.

Congratulations! Your Elon Smart Thermostat is now set up and ready to start saving you money. By following these steps, you’ll enjoy the benefits of smart control, energy savings, and increased convenience. For further support, refer to the user manual or contact your installer.
