Is your Elon Smart Water system not heating your water? Whether you're relying on grid power or solar energy, not having hot water can be a major inconvenience. Luckily, with a few simple steps, you can troubleshoot and hopefully resolve the issue in no time. Here’s a quick guide to help you get your water hot again.
Steps to Fix Your Elon Smart Water System:
Check the Power Supply:
Is your geyser circuit breaker on? Make sure the circuit breaker in your distribution board (DB) is switched on. If it's off, flip it back on.
Is there a power outage? If you’re experiencing loadshedding or a local outage, your geyser won’t heat with grid power. However, if you’ve got solar, your water should still heat during sunny hours.
Switch to Grid Power Temporarily:
Open the Elon Smart app on your smartphone.
Tap “Heat With Grid Now” if solar power isn’t sufficient (e.g., on a cloudy day). This will temporarily use grid electricity to heat the water.
Check the Heating Profile:
Verify that your thermostat is set to the correct heating profile. For example, if you have it set to “Solar Only”, but you don’t have enough solar panels for your household size and hot water use level, you can select one of the other options, such as “Morning Showers”, “Evening showers” or “Morning & Evening Showers”. If you depend on grid power only, set it to “Grid Only”.
Check for any Alarms:
Open the app and check for any alarms (indicated by a red exclamation mark). Common alarms like “No Power on AC Input” or “Element Faulty” can indicate wiring or element issues. You can clear some alarms by resetting the thermostat or contacting a technician.
Wait for the System to Heat:
If you've recently used a lot of hot water or it's been cloudy, the geyser may take some time to reheat. Wait for about two hours to see if the water temperature rises.
Common Mistakes to Avoid:
Ignoring Cloudy Days: On overcast days, solar power may not provide enough energy. Switch to grid power temporarily if needed.
Skipping Thermostat Alarms: Don’t ignore alarm notifications—they can help you prevent more serious issues.
By following these simple steps, you can often resolve heating issues with your Elon Smart Water system quickly.
